Kayla Thomas is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology and Africana Studies at Bates College. Her scholarship centers urban communities in the contemporary United States, the people who inhabit and shape them, and the relationships that sustain them. She pays particular attention to racial and ethnic identity construction and community-building at the local level. More broadly, her research and teaching are connected to larger national and global trends of migration, discrimination, and displacement.
