Bates Dance Festival presents the high voltage hip-hop senasation Rennie Harris PureMovement

Rennie Harris PureMovement, an electrifying eight member dance company rooted in hip-hop culture, will perform two powerful new works at The Bates Dance Festival, northern New England's leading contemporary dance presenting and training program, at 8 p.m July 25 and July 26, in Schaeffer Theatre, 305 College St.
Casco Bay Tummlers to perform

The Casco Bay Tummlers, a band specializing in a lively brand of Jewish and Gypsy folk music from Eastern Europe known as klezmer, will perform at 6 p.m. July 31. The concert, part of the Bates College Midsummer Lakeside Concert Series, will be held on the open-air terrace overlooking Lake Andrews. The public is invited and admission is free.

A group of women involved in women's issues and representing non-profit organizations from Kyrgyzstan in the former Soviet Union will participate in an informal reception and discussion at Bates College at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Middletown Student Receives Fulbright Grant

Robert R. Gatehouse of Middletown, Conn., has been awarded a Fulbright grant by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board to teach English and study in Chemnitz, Germany. The grant will pay Gatehouse's travel and living expenses during the 1997-98 academic year.
Environmental/outdoor artists available for photo opportunity

Internationally acclaimed environmental/outdoor artists Sara Pearson and Patrik Widrig will be available at 2 p.m, July 16 for a photo opportunity on the location of their newly commissioned site-specific dance performance, A Curious Invasion, inspired by Maine Audubon's Gilsland Farm Sanctuary, located on 118 U.S. Route 1 in Falmouth. The choreographers will choose from the various field and forest habitats to inspire their movement.
