Press Herald notes top Maine finish by Gomez '05 at Boston Marathon

The Portland Press Herald and the Bangor Daily News, among other outlets, report that Maine’s fastest finisher at the Boston Marathon on April 18 was Robert Gomez ’05, who completed his Boston debut in 2:24:18 to place 35th among men. Gomez, who started with the elite runners, told the Press Herald prior to the race that he was “just excited to experience it regardless of the outcome.”

Gomez finished 10th in the Houston Marathon in January in 2:23:02 and said he was a little apprehensive about running another marathon so soon afterward. “Elite status or not, I’ve always wanted to run the Boston Marathon. I think it’s an achievement for anyone who runs it and completes it.”

Gomez is a native of Waldoboro, Maine, now working at General Dynamics in Saco while pursuing a master’s degree in organic chemistry from the University of Maine. View advance story from the Press Herald, April 17, 2011.
