Summer Newsletter 2011: Office of the President

Nancy Cable

By unanimous vote of the Board of Trustees, Nancy J. Cable became interim president of Bates on July 1, 2011. She succeeds Elaine Tuttle Hansen, who has become executive director of the Center for Talented Youth at The Johns Hopkins University.

Cable, who joined Bates as the college’s inaugural vice president and dean of enrollment and external affairs in February 2010, is serving a one-year appointment as interim president while a national search for a permanent appointee is conducted.

Cable holds a doctorate in the history of education from the University of Virginia, and previously served in senior leadership roles at Denison University, the University of Virginia and Davidson College.
