Meet the five winners of the #BatesFinals Instagram contest

Amidst all the exams, papers, and senior theses to write and bind, a bevy of Bates students took time from busy finals-week schedules to put on their artistic hats, snap their best finals-themed photos, and submit them to our annual #BatesFinals instagram contest.

The prize? Instagram immortality itself with a coveted spot on the official @BatesCollege Instagram account, curated by Director of Photography and Video Phyllis Graber Jensen, plus a $25 gift card for tasty treats at the Bobcat Den.

Without further ado, here are the five winning submissions.

Ellie Yguico ’20 of Sherman Oaks, Calif.

Ellie’s facial expression and distinctive use of Instagram stickers and her bitmoji really captures how finals week can feel. The struggle is real, Ellie. Yes, it is.

Emma Soler ’20 of Bethesda, Md.

The motion and exuberance of subject Grace Ellrodt ’20, combined with the bright red of her jacket and in contrast with the snowy white background, had the #BatesFinals Instagram contest committee jumping for joy as well.

Catherine Merton ’18 of East Longmeadow, Mass.

A look at Ladd Library from on high. We loved the composition of the desk, chair, and subject, along with the angular arrangement of papers, notebooks, and study materials.

Andorthy Kelly ’21 of New York, New York

The lines embedded in this snowy scene by the lights of Parker Hall and the path of Alumni Walk all point to a winning submission. But the creative caption really seals the deal.

Morgan Leeson ’18 of Salem, Va.

This simple yet joyful photo of Morgan Leeson ’18, sitting under the tree as she enjoys her book surrounded by stacks of their neatly arranged brethren, highlights a Bates message: We believe that knowledge is a gift we can give ourselves every day.

Knowledge is a gift!#BatesFinals #holidaySZN
