Modern dance at Bates celebrates 30 years

The Bates College Modern Dance Company, founded and directed by Marcy Plavin, lecturer in dance, will celebrate its 30-year anniversary with a concert performance, titled Slightly Hysterical (So, You Think This Has Been Easy?) at at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 20, in Schaeffer Theater, 305 College St. Admission is free, but no reservations are accepted. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Cumming and Glazer perform third Brahms concert

In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the death of composer Johnanes Brahms, pianists Frank Glazer and Duncan Cumming ’93, will perform the third in a series of four Bates College concerts featuring the composer’s complete works for solo piano at 3 p.m., Nov. 9, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St. The public is invited to attend the performance free of charge.

British debaters launch 75th anniversary tour at Bates

“This house believes that the monarchy should be buried with Diana” will be argued by the British Debate Team and Bates College debaters at 4 p.m., Sept. 20, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Lanesboro student leads Bates' AESOP orientation

Two-hundred and thirty-six incoming students — half the class of 2001 at Bates College — will first face physical rigors, while hiking, rock climbing, canoing, backpacking or mountain biking in the Annual Entering Student Outdoor Program (AESOP) orientation. Dan Voisin, a Bates senior from Lanesboro, Mass., is overseeing the preorientation program, including transportation, food and gear procurement as well as training the 52 student-trip leaders.

Farewell lunch to be held for Seeds of Peace group
