McDonald of Manchester, Mass., describes herself as “fascinated by every part of a face.”

Her goal for her senior thesis artwork was simply to expand her command of drawing, and she turned to master artists such as Rubens, Degas and Dürer for guidance. “But as I looked through history,” she says, “I realized that my drawings address certain classical representations of women in a very direct yet subtle way.”
