Summer Newsletter 2012: Religious Studies


The Department of Religious Studies welcomes Dr. Ali Humayun Akhtar to the faculty.

Dr. Akhtar joins the department as an assistant professor of religious studies and a specialist in Islamic studies. He completed a bachelor’s degree in Near Eastern studies at Cornell University, and both a master’s in Middle Eastern studies and a doctorate in history and Middle Eastern studies at New York University.

He will teach Religious Studies 264, Introduction to Islamic Traditions, and a new introductory level course in Islamic studies. Dr. Akhtar comes to us from Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y., where he was a visiting assistant professor of Arabic and history in the Division of Language and Literatures.
