Visitors to Campus
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced Bates to make major changes to its visitor policies while being sustaining our goal of being open to our neighbors.
Visitors who are parents, family members, or guardians of Bates students are discouraged from coming to campus. Parents, family members, and guardians will not have access to any campus buildings. Parents, family members, and guardians who elect to come to campus will need to meet with their student outdoors and follow face covering and physical distancing policies.
Recreational visitors: During the pandemic, recognizing the value to local citizens and in keeping with our partnership with Lewiston and Auburn, Bates continues to permit local visitors to use non-specialized outdoor spaces, including paths, for recreation and respite. Bates requires face coverings and physical distancing at all times.
Admission visitors: Under guidance from public health officials, and to protect the safety of our community, we have made the following changes to our process for Admission visitors:
- All visitors must read and understand our Bates Admission Visitor Agreement to register for a campus event.
- All visitors must review and sign our Covid-19 Certificate of Compliance which will be emailed to you 24 hours before your visit.
- Only two additional visitors from the same household are permitted in addition to the student registrant.
- We ask that all visitors leave campus directly after their tour has finished so that we can prepare to welcome the next group of visitors
We know that this process is more laborious than usual, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make this a safe and positive experience for everyone. More information about Admission visits can be found here.
The college recognizes that certain vendors and contractors need access to the campus to maintain the operations of the college. Facility Services works closely with contractors to be in areas that minimize concentrations of Bates employees and to follow appropriate policies to minimize exposure and transmission in their work.
Campus buildings will remain on keycard access. Students, faculty, and staff will have access to academic buildings and certain administrative buildings during normal business hours. Effective June 1, 2021, visitors will be permitted in college buildings for college-hosted business (e.g., meetings) at the specific invitation of faculty or staff. Hosts are required to escort their guests into and out of college buildings. All buildings will continue on keycard access, and non-ticketed events open to the general public will not be held on campus (e.g., Concerts on the Quad will not be held this summer).
