The Gender Trap: parents and the pitfalls of raising boys and girls

Emily Kane, Professor of Sociology and a member of the Program of Gender and Sexuality Studies, has published an intriguing book on the social construction of children’s gendered childhoods.  Through in-depth interviews with parents, Professor Kane shows how difficult it is to escape the gender trap, even with the best of intentions.

Professor Kane has had numerous interviews on public radio stations about this informative book and its findings.  Should you wish to “check out” the text yourself, you might have to request it from one of our partner libraries as our copy( though there is one in the Archives ) is usually already on loan!
