
Elizabeth Wanless '04 just short of Olympic trial shot put final
Liz Wanless ’04 (Belleville, Ill.) was just one spot shy of qualifying for the finals of the U.S. Olympic women’s shot put trials on Thursday, finishing 13th in the preliminary round with a throw of 51 feet, three inches.
Kristin Heaston leads the field with a throw of 58-10 after the preliminary round. Leann Boerema was the last qualifier for the final round with a throw of 51-9.
Wanless, who set NCAA Division III Indoor and Outdoor Championship records en route to national championship titles this season, ranked 23rd on the national performance list entering the trials. She has one year of outdoor eligibilty remaining, which she will use at the University of Florida.
