But every night come out these envoys of beauty, and light the universe with their admonishing smile.’” — Physics and Geology Lecturer Gene Clough, quoting Ralph Waldo Emerson on the stars, while looking at Venus in the evening sky. During the semester that he teaches “Lunar and Planetary Science,” Clough stands outside of Carnegie Science for an hour at dusk on every clear night so that interested members of the Bates community can star gaze.
