Michael E. Reidy

Reidy is one of six Bates faculty members who have received tenure appointments or promotions that will take effect Aug. 1, 2012.  (Read the story.)

He is a scenic and lighting designer and production specialist.

At Bates he has taught courses in scenic design, lighting design and theater technology. He has also designed lighting for numerous Bates mainstage productions including The Learned Ladies (2011), Hotel Universe (2010), All the World’s a Grave and Alcestis (both 2009).

Reidy has designed productions for theaters and performance organizations throughout New England and the United States including Portland Stage Company, Mad Horse Theater, Freeport Shakespeare Festival, Portland Symphony Orchestra, The Public Theatre of Lewiston, Tennessee Repertory Theater, Worchester Foothills Theater, PORT Opera, Disneyland and the National Dance Company of Costa Rica.  He has designed exhibits for the Salem Witch Museum and touring sets for rock bands ZZ Top and the Dave Matthews Band, and has worked extensively with nationally acclaimed performance artist and Bates faculty member William Pope.L as a production consultant.

He received an Individual Artist Grant from the Maine Arts Commission in 1997 for his theater design work.

Reidy received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Carnegie-Mellon University and a master of fine arts degree in performing arts and design technology from the California Institute of the Arts.
