Writing and Speaking Support
Need Help Developing, Writing, Refining, or Practicing Your Poster or Presentation?
In the Peer Learning Commons you have access to a trained cadre of your peers–Writing and Speaking Tutors–who are excited to hear about your Mt. David Summit research and ready to help you start, write, refine, and even practice your presentation.
The Student Writing & Language Center (SWLC) Writing Tutors are eager to help you draft, write, and revise your Mt. David presentations and slides. Our Writing Tutors are deeply invested readers who get to know you and your goals by asking you personalized questions that help you become clearer on what you want to say and how you want to say it to your Mt. David audience. These Writing Tutors can help you in whatever stage of the writing process you are, working closely with you to help you brainstorm ideas, outline ideas, write out your script, work on your slides, or revise whatever you’ve written thus far. You might even do a first-run read-aloud with a SWLC Writing Tutor before practicing or recording your presentation live–with a Speaking Tutor, if you wish–in the PLC’s new Public Speaking & Presentation Support Studios!
There are a few ways to access writing or speaking support for your Mt. David Summit presentation:
FOR WRITING SUPPORT: Log into SWLC’s Penji community here, and either book a 30- or 60-minute appointment with a Writing Tutor using the subject “Oral Presentation or Speech Writing Support.”
FOR SPEAKING PRACTICE: When you have a draft of your talk and you’re ready to practice running through it from start to finish, log into SASC’s Penji community here and book a 30- or 60-minute “Public Speaking Support” appointment with a Speaking Tutor.
Not sure which type of tutor you want or need? Drop by the Front Desk in the Peer Learning Commons on the Ground Floor of Ladd Library where you can always talk to a friendly and helpful Resource Representative who will get you to the tutor you need during our hours of operation listed below:
