Dean Michael Martinez is Interim Co-Director of the Office of Intercultural Education and Assistant Dean of Students.

Prior to moving to Maine, Dean Martinez was executive director of a nonprofit college access program that served public high schools in Dallas and Wichita Falls, Texas.  He was drawn to Bates out of a desire to understand college access from both the secondary school and the higher education perspectives.

Born in Oklahoma, raised in Texas, Dean Martinez received his bachelors in Religion from Princeton University in New Jersey in 2005 and is currently working on an MBA at Babson College is Wellesley, Massachusetts.  Among his many hobbies, he enjoys photography and working in collaboration with his mother, a long-time kindergarten teacher, to write and illustrate children’s books. He has traveled extensively throughout the world to destinations including Europe, Asia and Central America.  In addition to his work at Bates, he currently serves on the board of directors of the Maine Humanities Council.
