Summer Newsletter 2011: Communications

Bates Communications

Bates’ new assistant vice president for communications, Meg Kimmel, arrived on campus in June. Meg came from Davidson College, where she served as senior creative adviser and college editor and, previously, director of college communications.

For issues large and small, Meg will team with offices across campus to define and advance the key messages that speak most clearly to and about the college to both internal and external audiences.

As Meg’s title suggests, we have a new name that makes official what many of us have informally called this office for years. While media relations certainly remains an important aspect of our work, our operation is now called simply the Bates Communications Office.

Summer 2011 has been a season of long strides. For instance, we’re completing work on the first phase of an exciting new suite of admission publications. And the Web team is hard at work on the next generation of the Bates website. Designed to highlight the human relationships and global connections intrinsic to the Bates education, this new WordPress-based site will feature improved search capabilities and a smashing new appearance.

Watch for an announcement in August 2011 of your opportunity for a sneak peek at the new site.

Finally, remember that we are here to help you spread the word about public events that your student organization or campus office is sponsoring.
