Summer Newsletter 2011: Psychology

Psychology major Devin Wigler '09 of Hubbardston, Mass., talks with her senior thesis adviser Professor of Psychology Kathy Low in Low's Pettengill Hall office. Wigler's thesis analyzes data regarding stress levels and psychosocial needs of newly diagnosed cancer patients for the Patrick Dempsey Center at Central Maine Medical Center.

Associate Professor Michael Sargent ends his term as chair of the psychology department this fall, and we thank him for his leadership and excellent service in this role. At the same time, we welcome Associate Professor Todd Kahan, who starts his term as chair in the fall.

Professor Georgia Nigro will stay on as interim director of the Harward Center for Community Partnerships for one more year. Although she retains academic advising responsibilities, she will be released from all other teaching responsibilities. Professors Su Langdon and Rebecca Fraser-Thill continue with us this year, and we are happy to welcome back Associate Professor Krista Aronson from her sabbatical.

We’ll also be pleased to welcome Professor Jill Reich to the department, as she ends 12 years of service to the college as dean of the faculty and returns to life in the classroom. She is on sabbatical this year, but will be back on campus teaching and advising in the winter semester of 2013.
