Summer Newsletter 2012: Registrar and Academic Systems

Welcome, new students; and welcome back, returning students, from the Registrar’s Office!

In conjunction with our colleagues in Systems Development and Integration (a division of ILS), the Registrar’s Office has been working to bring a new system to Bates to give students and advisers a way to access student progress towards the requirements for graduation. You may remember that there is a “General Education Evaluation” page currently in the Garnet Gateway. The new system, which we call “Degree Audit,” will have a much improved look and feel over the old page, making it easier for students and advisers to track progress towards the degree requirements.

An important change is that for the first time ALL requirements will be presented, including majors and minors. This will help students better understand the “double-dipping” rule and help them plan their curriculum. We hope that by offering a comprehensive look at degree requirements — from the 32 credits to concentrations, majors, PE and everything between — students will have a clearer picture of their current progress.

This system will live in the Garnet Gateway and will be just a click away anytime. It will update automatically as students register, complete courses, and declare majors, minors and concentrations.

We would also like to remind students that the registration adjustment period (add/drop) will open for all students at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4. Students may add and drop as space allows through Sept. 11, and with instructor permission until the last day to add, Sept. 18.

In the meantime, we hope everyone has enjoyed a pleasant and relaxing summer break!
