COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements for Fall 2021 Semester

Dear Students,

With a couple of weeks left in the academic year, I write with an update on the college’s expectations regarding COVID-19 vaccinations for students.

To help protect our campus and community against the virus, Bates will require that all students be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before coming to campus this fall for the academic year 2021-2022.

The very nature of our residential community makes this requirement necessary to protect the health of students and the broader Bates and local communities. In addition, having a fully vaccinated student body puts us in a better position to return to the many activities and experiences that existed on our campus before the pandemic, but were not possible this academic year.

For more information, please see these FAQs on the Health Services website, which may be of assistance in answering common questions about this vaccine requirement. Additional questions related to the COVID-19 vaccine requirement should be directed to Bates Health Services at

For students currently on campus, please enjoy the remaining weeks of the semester, and for members of the Class of 2025, I look forward to welcoming you to Bates in August.

All my best,

Joshua McIntosh
Vice President for Campus Life
