APRIL 4: Campus Update

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

Last week we experienced a number of students testing positive for COVID-19. The positivity rate for student testing on Tuesday, March 29 was 1.4% and for Thursday, March 31 it was 0.6%. As of this morning, we have 23 active student cases and two active employee cases.

Our public health policy on campus continues to be mask-optional in most spaces. We encourage our community to consider both the available campus COVID-19 information, as well as other indicators, when deciding when to wear a mask, or when a faculty member or meeting host sets masking expectations for their spaces. For reference, please see our current employee policies, student policies, and visitor policies.

While COVID-19 is elevated on campus, the CDC website indicates that most of Maine is in the “green” level. Early in March, as we considered and adjusted our campus policies, our public health advisors indicated that we should expect to see an increase in the number of cases due to the BA.2 variant that was occurring elsewhere in the world, and our current case numbers are consistent with their expectations.

We will continue to evaluate our policies in light of available information and public health guidance.

Thank you for your time and attention.

All the best,

Joshua McIntosh
Vice President for Campus Life
