COVID-19 Bivalent Booster Vaccine Available to Students
The CDC released updated COVID-19 vaccination guidelines on September 2, 2022. These guidelines recommend all individuals receive the COVID-19 bivalent booster vaccine. The bivalent vaccine is the vaccine based on the original (ancestral) strain of SARS-CoV-2 and the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 (BA.4/BA.5) variants of SARS-CoV-2.
Bates College strongly recommends that all students receive the bivalent booster as soon as possible. Most individuals are recommended to receive a bivalent vaccine two months after their most recent COVID-19 vaccine dose or three months following being diagnosed with COVID-19.
As of September 12, 2022, appointments are available at local pharmacies. You can search for and schedule available appointments using this website. Walgreens at 430 Sabattus Street is within walking distance to campus.
Please note that supply for this booster vaccine is currently a challenge. Please be patient and keep looking daily to schedule. You may need to schedule an appointment weeks in advance. As additional locations can administer the bivalent booster, we will update you through further communications.
Students can schedule transportation to a local vaccine appointment in Lewiston/Auburn using the Bobcat Express reservation form.
More information can be found on the Health Services website. Questions about eligibility and scheduling an appointment for a bivalent vaccine can be directed to Brenna Callahan at email@example.com.
We hope you are having a great start to your academic year.
