Celebrating the New Year: Calligraphy and Lantern Making

On Monday, February 9th, students gathered for a hands-on celebration of Lunar New Year traditions led by Emma Hsu and Gongshi Huang ’25. Participants practiced the art of Chinese calligraphy, creating hand-written couplets filled with auspicious wishes—a staple of New Year decorations in the Chinese-speaking world. In addition to these couplets, attendees crafted decorative paper lanterns, bringing a glow of festive spirit to the Asian Studies department.
