Tahira Efendieva, 2023-24 Fulbright Teaching Assistant in Russian

My name is Takhira. I was born in Azerbaijan but have lived my whole life in St. Petersburg, Russia. I graduated from Herzen State Pedagogical University in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in education.

I have been teaching English as a foreign language to different age groups and students from diverse backgrounds at various community-based and language schools. I enjoy learning new languages, crossing cultural boundaries, and acquiring different linguistic identities. Knowing multiple languages has helped me establish cultural bridges between individuals and foster my critical thinking skills.

I spend a lot of my free time outdoors and enjoy bike rides, long walks, and picnics in the woods. I particularly appreciate museum visits and theater performances. My recent interests have been in the areas of information technologies and data analysis. I enjoy gaining insights from exploring number relationships.

My goal for the upcoming academic year at Bates is to support all students pursuing courses in Russian language and share my knowledge of Russian culture. I am also very excited to learn about American culture through meaningful interactions with students and the larger campus community.
