Midsummer Lakeside Concert Series to be held

The Bates College Midsummer Lakeside Concert Series will present five Thursday evening musical performances on the open-air terrace overlooking Lake Andrews behind the Olin Arts Center. All concerts begin at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

The series kicks off with a July 18 performance by the Casco Bay Concert Band, a 70-piece band featuring marches, light classics and family favorites. On July 25, Pacto Andino will perform Andean music. On Aug. 1, pianist and vocalist Scott Steinberg will present an evening of jazz, contemporary and pop standards. On Aug. 8, the Portland-based a cappella group, “Suzanne & the Guys With Ties,” will perform jazz and pop favorites. The series concludes with an Aug. 15 performance of traditional dance music from New England, French Canada and southern Appalachia by Scrod Pudding.

Those who attend the concerts are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating, as well as picnic suppers. The rain site for the concerts will be the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall.
