The biggest news from the Office of the Dean of the Faculty is that Associate Dean of the Faculty Pamela J. Baker, the College’s Helen A. Papaioanou Professor of Biological Sciences, has succeeded Jill N. Reich as Bates’ vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty, effective July 1.

Baker accepted a two-year appointment in the position. Following a sabbatical, Reich will return as professor of psychology.

In other developments, the former Foundations, Corporations and Government Relations office has made an administrative switch from the Office of College Advancement to the dean of the faculty’s office, and has been renamed the Office for External Grants. Phil Walsh, associate director, and Katie Currie, grants coordinator, are still located in Lane Hall’s Room 14. A national search is under way for a director.
