Students love receiving mail and packages from parents, family, and friends throughout the year. Below is some pertinent information to help you mail items effectively to your student.

Your student will receive an email notification from Post & Print once the package is ready for pickup.

All mail and packages should be addressed as follows:

Student First and Last Name
(Virtual Box Number*) Bates College

65 Campus Ave.
Lewiston, Maine 04240

Please use this format for all carriers, including same-day deliveries from Wal-Mart, Target, or Amazon.

*Ask your student for their virtual box number. (They can find it in their Garnet Gateway account.) It is not necessary to include their building name/room, ID number, or other identifying information. All mail and packages are routed through Post & Print and distributed based upon the campus box number listed.

Be sure the student’s first and last name and campus box number are listed in the address as shown above. Items without the student’s name or campus box number, or with the wrong name or box number, may cause the item to be delayed or returned to sender.

If you are traveling a long distance, you may want to ship some of your student’s belongings to campus beforehand.

There are several things to keep in mind when shipping items overnight:

  • If you need to have something shipped overnight, we recommend FedEx or UPS. Both of these vendors deliver directly to Post & Print so the chances of your package getting here on time is greater.
  • USPS Mail/Packages: All USPS mail and packages are first routed through the Lewiston Post Office before coming to the College. Our couriers pick up and drop off mail throughout the day but if your overnight package arrives at the Lewiston Post Office after 1:00pm, we will not receive it until the next day
  • Shipping Confirmation: Some people get confused when the shipper has confirmed delivery but the student still hasn’t received the item. We receive a lot of mail and packages over the course of a day so time for processing is needed. Your student will receive an email notification once the package is ready for pickup.
