Historian to dicuss African Americans in the American West

LEWISTON, Maine -- Quintard Taylor, the Knight Distinguished Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Oregon, will discuss African Americans in the American West on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Edmund S. Muskie Archives on the Bates College campus. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Tayolor received a Pulitzer Prize nomination for his book, "In Search of the Racial Frontier: African Americans in the American West, 1528-1990." A reception and book signing will follow his talk, sponsored by the Bates College Office of Affirmative Action, the American cultural studies and African American studies programs, and the history department.
