The bold and creative work of photographer Ryan Heffernan ’05 has been the focus of visual communications media outlets.

Communication Arts recently devoted one of its Fresh profiles to Hefferman and his portfolio, and he was also featured in Digital Photo Pro’s Emerging Pro Competition in 2011.

He has a range of credits for editorial, design and corporate clients, including the magazines National Geographic, GQ, Outside, Men’s Journal, Time, Runner’s World Magazine and Backpacker Magazine.

In October, the blog Wonderful Machine recently showcased Heffernan’s photos of a Kenyan safari, an assignment done for a boutique travel agency based in New Mexico.

Heffernan began his serious photography work at Bates, where he was a studio art major and contributed a photo essay to Bates Magazine about his experience with the Somali immigrant community in Lewiston.

As Heffernan tells Communication Arts, “I love to wander and explore the world through a lens.”
