Slide show features Trashion Show 2009

Green room

Models and designers gather in the green room -- a private area created by curtains behind the stage -- before the show gets under way. Anne Cravero '13, seated, wears a dress designed by Nancy Weiner '13 made from plastic bags, box board and magazine paper.

Pre-show excitement

Designer Grady Hogan '13 and model Eleanor Anaclerio '13 can barely contain their excitement backstage.

With style

Megan Guynes '11 models an outfit designed by Meghan Fahey '11 made from three colored strips woven together with an old Bates Outing Club tent and recycled fabric.

A rapt audience

Hundreds of enthusiastic members of the Bates community fill the Gray Cage to enjoy delicious Harvest desserts and the Trashion Show.

Wowing the judges

Kat Moraros '10 impresses the judges with a dress made with packaging from discarded Bigelow tea bags designed by Margaret Koerber '10. The judges are: Michelle Silverstein '10, Bates Student fashion editor; Danny Gimble, '10 Student Body president; Sonja Pieck, assistant professor of environmental studies; Jim Guzelian, environmental health and safety assistant David Scobey, director of the Harward Center for Community Partnerships; James Reese, associate dean of students; Kathy Peters, costume shop supervisor, Schaeffer Theatre, and James Reese, Associate Dean of Students.

Trashion

The fourth annual Trashion Show, held Nov. 18 in the Gray Cage, followed the annual Harvest Meal. Surrounded by desserts, the Bates community gathered to witness the year’s most stylish “green” event, a fashion show that raises awareness of the trash we produce and the recycling initiatives aimed at minimizing it.
