The “2025 Office Theme,” Header Sizes, and Page Widths
Activating the Theme
First, ensure the theme is activated for the site you are trying to customize. Do this by clicking “Customize” in the tool bar at the top of your page. Next, select “Change,” and ensure “Bates Framework, 2025 Update” is selected. You can also contact webteam@bates.edu for help changing your site’s theme.

Setting Your Default Settings
To change your default settings, first visit your site. Simply select “Customize” from your tool bar at the top, then click “Template Options”. Finally, choose your preferred Header Size and Content Width. Don’t forget to click “Publish.” These will now be your default settings, but you can always change them for any individual page, which we will walk through next.
Using the Theme
To override the default Header Size and Content Width settings on a specific page, navigate to the bottom of the page you want to customize, and expand “Template Settings” in the righthand options panel. Here you will be able to experiment with different header sizes and content width options for your page.
Override Default Header Size
This template option allows you to choose the size of your site’s header. The expanded option is good for drawing the readers attention to a specific image. This might be useful for Bates office websites, by example, as they could include a photo of the building they are located in. The moderate header size might be used for a background or blurred image that serves less importance, but still adds dimension to the site. Finally, the minimal header option is good for sites where the page contents are the main focus, such as rules and regulations, or guidelines.

Override Default Content Width
This option allows you to change the width of your content. The force wide option is useful for pages that might include lengthier blocks of text, whereas force medium is more appropriate for short paragraphs.
