Application deadline: Monday, March 15, 2010. The Barlow Endowment for Study Abroad has $5,000 to support faculty travel to study abroad sites frequented by Bates students. The program provides an opportunity for faculty to gain first-hand knowledge of the programs and settings used by Bates students. It is expected that most faculty will travel to locations where their majors study to assess the suitability of the program or university as a study abroad site in their field of study. It is hoped that the fund will support a number of trips per year with faculty combining the funds with other resources and travel, including conference and personal travel. The Off-Campus Study Committee is responsible for allocating the funds. It seeks applications for the following summer and academic year. After the deadline, the funds are awarded on a rolling basis, starting in mid-September, if funds remain available. Preference is given to travel that will occur while the students are on site and to faculty who have had fewer opportunities for Bates-related travel abroad and less access to alternative funding sources. Additional information and applications are available in the Off-Campus Study Office in Lane Hall or on the website http://www.bates.edu/Prebuilt/Barlow-Faculty-Endowment-Application.pdf. 8/2009 |
