Portland Brass Quintet to perform

The Portland Brass Quintet will perform a concert of classical, jazz and blues works at 7:30 p.m. Monday, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

The versatile ensemble, critically acclaimed for its wide-ranging repertoire, will perform compositions by William Byrd, G.F. Handel, Bach, Claude Debussy, W.C. Handy and Thelonius Monk.

The quintet, comprised of experienced educators highly committed to Maine students of all ages, has visited dozens of Maine schools, utilizing various formats such as assemblies, clinics, lecture/demonstrations, master classes and residencies.

Quintet members are Betty Rines, trumpet; Dana Russian, trumpet; John Boden, horn; Mark Manduca, trombone; and Don Rankin, tuba. All are members of the Portland Symphony or Springfield Symphony. Individual credits include performing with the Boston Symphony, Boston Pops, Vermont Symphony, New Hampshire Symphony, and with numerous jazz and recording artists.
