A.V.C.O. to perform spring concert

Winter’s passing will be noted with a hat off to spring when the Androscoggin Valley Community Orchestra (AVCO) performs its next concert at 8 p.m. May 3, in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St.

The performance, to be conducted by William Meyers, is open to the public. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased by calling 783-4422 during daytime hours.

Included in the program are “On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring” by Frederick Delius, and “The Winter’s Past,” for oboe and string orchestra, by Wayne Barlow. Oboist Dorothy Rupert will perform the solo.

The orchestra also will perform three pieces for flute and orchestra by Benjamin Godard, with Jeffery Pelletier as soloist.

Deborah Perkins will perform two solo arias, “Pie Jesu” by Gabriel Fauré and a second from the “St. Matthew Passion” by Bach. A fourth soloist, cellist Kurt Kaufman, will play “Allegro Appassionato” by Camille Saint-Saens.

The orchestra concludes its program with the “Russian and Ludmilla Overture” by Michael Glinka.
