Midsummer Lakeside Concerts to begin

The Bates College Midsummer Lakeside Concert Series will present five Thursday-evening musical performances in July and August. Due to construction on Lake Andrews, this season’s concerts will be held on the main Bates College quadrangle. All concerts begin at 6 p.m., and the public is invited to attend free of charge.

The series kicks off with a July 16 performance of folk and classic rock by Winterwood. On July 23, Maine’s premier flute choir, Howlin Winds, performs From Mozart to Jazz, a program including Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, three operatic selections, a selection of Gaelic melodies and a jazz composition. On July 30, Chainon, a Franco-American trio, performs Quebecois music. On Aug. 6, The Jazz Workshop, a group of talented middle and high school musicians under the direction of Lewiston music teacher Mike McClure, performs a big band concert. The series concludes with an Aug. 13 performance by the popular Blue Hill Brass ensemble.

Those who attend the concerts are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating, as well as picnic suppers. The rain site for the concerts will be the Clifton Daggett Grey Athletic Building.
