It seems impossible to have moved so quickly from the commencement of Short Term to the end of Commencement. It was like a magic act: Now you see it, now you don’t. But here’s uncontested evidence that This Month at Bates was not just a grand illusion.
Lois Masson ’16 of Petit-Lancy, Switzerland, regards an iconic Maine Hunting Shoe during a tour of the L.L.Bean manufacturing plant in Brunswick, Maine, during a field trip for the course “Brand Culture Building,” taught by Peter Bysshe ’93. One of Bysshe's goals for the course was to “humanize intimidating large corporate cultures.” (Phyllis Graber Jensen/Bates College)
Environmental studies major Phillip Dube ’16 of Norton, Zimbabwe, receives a farewell hug from Nancy Gibson, associate director of the Bates Career Development Center, at the BCDC office. A frequent user of the college's career resources, Dube has an internship with Boston's BlueField Research this summer and in October joins the Capital Fellows Program in Sacramento, Calif. (Phyllis Graber Jensen/Bates College)
Matthew Baker ’17 of Clinton, Md., and Olivier Brillant of East Orange, N.J., head to their summer residence in Adams Hall. Baker’s doing research on virtual reality with Professor of Rhetoric Charles Nero and working in Dining Services. Brillant will work with Office Services on its move from Chase Hall to 65 Campus Ave. (Phyllis Graber Jensen/Bates College)
In late May, the women's second varsity eight won its third straight gold medal at this year’s NCAA Rowing Championships. As a team, Bates finished second to national champion Wellesley. (Aaron Morse/Bates College)
