As we prepare to welcome our returning Bobcats back to campus, we’re sharing a few important dates, resources, and reminders for the start of the semester.
Getting to Bates
Whether your student is traveling by plane, train, bus, or car, the Getting to Bates FAQ offers helpful information and transportation options for getting to campus.
Arrival & Check-In
Returning students may arrive August 30–September 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Students should check in at the Fireplace Lounge in Commons, where staff will activate their new Bates ID and issue their room key.
Lost Bates ID? Students who lost their ID over the summer should request a replacement before arriving on campus to ensure a smooth check-in.
Key Dates & Upcoming Events
August 20–24: Student orientation leaders (OWLs, AESOP, JA/CA staff, etc.) arrive on campus
August 24–25: Fall preseason athletes arrive on campus
August 30–September 1: Arrival and move-in for returning students
August 31: Board plan for returning students begins with dinner
September 2: Fall semester classes begin
October 2–4: Back to Bates: Alumni and Family Weekend
October 14-18: Fall recess, residences remain open
Well-Being at Bates
As a new semester begins, Bates offers a wide range of resources to support student well-being. From academics and mental health to physical, social, and financial well-being, students can explore resources designed to support them throughout their time at Bates.
