Information for Prospective Job Applicants

With ardor and devotion — Amore ac Studio — we engage the transformative power of our differences, cultivating intellectual discovery and informed civic action. Preparing leaders sustained by a love of learning and a commitment to responsible stewardship of the wider world, Bates is a college for coming times. (from the Bates College Mission Statement)

Like the wider Bates community, ours is a department that is collegial, collaborative, and committed to helping each student navigate the transformative challenges and opportunities of emerging adulthood. We also seek to help them find new interests and realize their potential for “intellectual discovery and informed civic action.” Collectively, we faculty also make contributions to the empirical literature in the discipline, and we collaborate with partners outside the department to enhance the vitality of the on-campus and surrounding communities, all the while engaging students in that work. Obviously, we pursue excellence in the classroom, but we also recognize that some of the most lasting educational impact happens outside of that space, in the laboratory or in community. Bates, and the Lewiston/Auburn community of which Bates is a part, offer many resources and opportunities for a range of work in psychology.

The following pages offer information about what psychologists can do at Bates, as well as information about the community of which we’re a part.
