Open Dance Day 2023
What is Open Dance Day?
Open Dance Day is used to cast dancers for the upcoming student choreographed pieces that are performed at the end of the semester! It’s important to note that this is not like audition in a traditional sense, as everyone who would like to dance will be cast in a piece!
“The tone of Open Dance Day center on community, and as we are a non-audition program, everyone who shows up and wants to be cast in a piece will be. Conflicts and rehearsal spaces mainly determine the casting, and folx will know within the week whose work(s) they have been cast in. At that point, their primary contact will be their choreographer and the Stage Manager of the Spring Dance Concert, with an occasional email from me, the Concert’s Artistic Direct.” – Assistant Professor of Dance Brian J. Evans
How will Open Dance Day Go?
- Arrive to the studio, fill out general availability/commitment forms
- Meet and Greet, then discuss how the day will progress
- Warm ups!
- Choreographers lead small sections so everyone can understand their pieces movement style, and so that the choreographers can get a sense of everyone’s personal way of moving.
