Destany Franklin ’14, Bates athletics awarded for community engagement

A Bates senior from Seattle and the college Department of Athletics were each recognized for outstanding work in public service and civic engagement by Maine Campus Compact at the organization’s annual awards ceremony at the Maine State House on April 30.

Destany Franklin ’14 received the Heart and Soul Student Award for her work with the Hillview Center in Lewiston, and the athletics department received the President’s Leadership Award for its commitment to community engagement.

Maine Campus Compact is a statewide coalition of 17 college and university presidents who work to strengthen communities and create a more just society by prioritizing community-based learning for students. It is an affiliate state office of Campus Compact.
