The TPRC Fall Forum

The TPRC want feedback from the Bates faculty community regarding the scope of a Bates faculty member’s professional responsibilities. To this end, the committee is hosting face-to-face fora, one which occurred last Thursday evening, and a snack-infused meeting Thursday (11/21) from 2:00-3:30. Held in the Muskie Archives, The TPRC is hoping for conversation in a relaxed environment to begin discussing aspects of faculty work and how we value that work.

In addition to the face-to-face fora, the TPRC has created an electronic space for faculty to comment by responding to questions. These questions ask faculty to reflect on aspects of faculty work, and are intentionally framed to broaden thinking as it relates to the three commonly considered aspects of faculty life: teaching, scholarship / creative work, and service. Instead the TPRC is asking these questions:

  • Question 1: How do faculty contribute to the development of and lives of students at Bates?
  • Question 2: How do faculty contribute to their academic and creative communities?
  • Question 3: How do faculty contribute to the college and the communities in which they participate?
  • Question 4: What other ways do faculty contribute to the college that are not captured/what are we missing?
