Executive Board
The Executive Board meets biweekly and is responsible for service decision making and planning. Each member of the E-Board holds a specific position integral to the function of the service. Abbreviated job descriptions and current officers listed below. CQI conducted monthly by Co-Chiefs and Captains, with ongoing review done by Head of Service.
Co-Chief: Nate Shore
Class of 2027
Hometown: Kennebunkport, ME
Nate is a Senior majoring in Rhetoric, Film, and Screen Studies with an English concentration. He is an Advanced EMT and works as a Firefighter/AEMT at home and in a few Central Maine communities surrounding Bates. This is his third year with Bates EMS.
Co-Chief: Anna Kozikowski
Class of 2027
Hometown: New Boston, NH
Anna is a senior double majoring in Biochemistry and Art & Visual Culture, with a concentration in Studio Painting. She is a Basic EMT and works for an EMS service back home. This is her second year with Bates EMS, and she is excited to continue serving the Bates community. After graduation, Anna hopes to attend medical school and continue working in EMS while pursuing a career in medicine.
The Co-Chiefs of Bates EMS are responsible for overseeing the general function of the service as a component of both Bates College and Maine EMS. The Co-Chiefs are the first point of contact for the Bates Administration and the Director of Bates EMS. The Co-Chiefs acts as the leading Line Officers of the Bates EMS Executive Board. As the heads of Bates EMS, the Co-Chiefs are responsible for being accessible to all members as voices of experience and leadership as they ensure the education, competency, and wellbeing of the providers.
Captain: Alexander Voglmayr

Hometown: Washington, D.C.
I’m Alexander, a senior Biochemistry major (Concentrations in English and Applying Mathematical Methods) and a Captain of Bates EMS. I’ve been working in EMS in the Lewiston-Auburn area with United Ambulance for the past couple of years and am currently an Advanced EMT. I really enjoy emergency medicine, learning, and helping newer members of Bates EMS build confidence in the field! When I’m not doing EMS, I’m usually at the gym, hanging out with friends, or finding some other way to stay busy. This is my fourth and final year with Bates EMS!
Captain: Charlie Ziehl

The two Bates EMS captains are responsible for organizing EMS trainings, tracking member’s licensure statuses, participating in routine QA/QI review and generally assisting the co-chiefs as fellow line officers. In addition, the captains work with the crew chiefs in identifying, tracking and fostering the growth of members as they move from 200/300 to CCIT, CC and Supervisor.

The secretary of Bates EMS is responsible for creating the monthly coverage schedule and sending out weekly emails with the minutes from full service and Executive Board meetings. Additionally, the secretary is responsible for scheduling standby coverage for sports games, school dances, and significant events.
Supply Officer: Sofia Selzman

Hometown: Salt Lake City, UT
Hey! I’m Sofia, the supply officer and am in my second year with BEMS. I’m from Salt Lake City, Utah and am a sophomore majoring in Earth and Climate Sciences. I got into EMS through wilderness medicine and currently work for the local ski resort and local ambulance service.
The Bates EMS Supply Officer is responsible for monitoring the service’s supplies and equipment. The supply officer will hold weekly inventory checks of the 100 bag, 200/300 bags, oxygen, and AED status. The Supply Officer is responsible for monitoring the service’s supply inventory and ordering additional supplies and equipment when necessary.

Hi everyone! My name is Evelyn Agrodnia and I am from Cape Elizabeth, Maine. I am a senior at Bates and a biochemistry major, with a concentration in the human body. This will be my second year on Bates EMS.
The Membership Coordinator of Bates EMS is responsible for keeping all current members of the service licensed and compliant with Maine EMS policies. The Membership Coordinator also facilitates the introduction of new members to the service. This includes coordinating an on campus EMS course in partnership with United Ambulance Service and the Bates Administration. In addition, this position will assist members with re-licensure and obtaining Continuing Education Hours.
Public Information Officer: Isabel Bettencourt

Hi! My name is Isabel. I am a senior majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in Mathematics and concentrations in Public Health, Digital and Computational Service, and Community Engagement and Civic Action. I love being part of Bates EMS, and I have been involved for a year.
The Public Information Officer is responsible for maintaining the official BEMS social media accounts and regularly posting informative content per the BEMS social media policy. They assist the Co-Chiefs with planning and executing public engagement events (volunteer fairs, tabling events, Halloween events, public safety day, etc).
