The Hathorn Society
The Alumni Council decided to launch the new Hathorn Society in 2010 to celebrate the commitment former Alumni Council members.
During Homecoming Weekend 2010, the Hathorn Society hosted their inaugural meeting. A number of projects were identified to provide former council members an opportunity to stay active in the various programs and initiatives of the college.
- Adopt a school program. Hathorn Society members will supplement the work done by the Office of Admission by “adopting” various high schools around the country. These could be schools they attended or schools in an area where they live. The goal would be to provide a greater area of coverage for the college as it tries to attract high school students.
- Bates Ambassadors program. With alumni events occurring in a growing number of U.S. cities and locations abroad, the Office of Alumni and Parent Engagement cannot practically staff each one. Hathorn Society members, when available, will take on the role of Bates Ambassadors at these events, serving as liaisons to the college. Ideally, they will be able to offer updates and some perspective on the latest campus news.
To join the Hathorn Society if you are a former member of the Alumni Council and served at least one year, please contact Marianne Nolan Cowan ’92, Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement, 207-786-6128.
