Evyn Steger

Evyn is the Assistant in Instruction for the Mathematics Department. She graduated from the University of Colorado Denver in 2014 where she was also a Noyce Scholar from 2012-2014. With five years of teaching experience at the high school level before joining the Bates Math Department in 2019, Evyn has a strong background in working with students and teaching calculus that allows her to offer support and expertise in the development and presentation of calculus curriculum and pedagogy. Evyn leads several sections of Calculus I Discussion and Calculus II Discussion, and assists with the instruction of Introduction to Abstraction. The discussions complement the Calculus I and Calculus II courses by engaging students in mathematical modeling and applied problem-solving labs that incorporate computational thinking in addition to traditional numerical, graphical and analytical approaches. Topics explored in calculus discussions include environmental science, biology and economics.
