Join the Bates Choir as we commemorate the 50^th year anniversary of the 1972 Clean Water Act and the contribution of Bates ‘36 graduate, Senator Edmund Muskie, a driving force behind this historic legislation.

The program will offer an uplifting, and thought-provoking afternoon, pairing captivating choral music selections steeped in the themes of nature, water and climate along with a 2 pm pre-concert talk by Maine aquatic biologist Matt Scott, former Chair of the Maine Board of Environmental Protection with 46 years of service to the State of Maine, who will discuss the far reaching effects the Clean Water Act to our environment on a local and national level.  

Bates Choir will explore just a few of the countless musical settings that use natural imagery to impart deeper reflections on the human condition, featuring music by Florence Price, Felix Mendelssohn, Gabriel Fauré, and an exciting acapella suite by Kevin Siegfried, setting four poems by Maine poet Sarah Orne Jewett celebrating the local landscape of the Seacoast region of New England.
