South African saxophonist, McCoy Mrubata, is visiting Maine and will be joined by his musical collaborator, guitarist Gary Wittner. Once a member of the legendary Hugh Masakela’s band, McCoy Mrubata has established himself as not just a saxophonist but a bandleader and touring/recording musician. A recent recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the S. African Music Association, McCoy Mrubata has released over 20 CDs of original South African jazz and has toured the African continent and Europe extensively.

Joining him is guitarist Gary Wittner, a faculty member at the University of Maine School of Music and Bowdoin College. Gary has performed music worldwide on 5 continents, and has officially represented the USA multiple times as a Kennedy Center Jazz Ambassador, Fulbright Specialist, and US Embassy Outreach Artist. Gary has released 7 CDs as a leader, and performs original, instrumental and vocal jazz, Latin music, and Middle Eastern music.
