International Tax Status Analysis

International employees (student or faculty/staff) and visitors must complete a Tax Status Analysis. This is necessary for the Payroll Office to appropriately withhold taxes from your wages or payments for services. If you do not complete the Tax Status Analysis, you will be taxed at the highest rate. Bates College uses Sprintax Calculus to complete the analysis.

Once the Payroll Office is notified, an email will be sent from Sprintax with instructions on accessing your account and completing your profile. It is imperative for International employees and visitors to complete their Sprintax profile. Sprintax will generate any applicable tax forms and these forms can be E-Signed in the Sprintax system.

Documentation Checklist for Tax Status Analysis:

  • Immigration Certificate of Eligibility (e.g. F-1: I-20, J-1: DS-2019, H1-B: I-797)
  • Passport
  • Visa
  • U.S. Social Security card (if you have a U.S. Social Security Number)

If you have any questions about the Tax Status Analysis process, or questions on completing your Sprintax profile, please email payroll@bates.edu.
