Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities
Description:
This student will assist with several technical projects currently underway at the Archives, including the editing and production of high quality digital audio files, the maintenance and growth of the Archives website through the production of HTML files, and the cataloging and online publication of digital photographs and other assets using digital library software.
Requirements:
HTML or other coding experience, experience working with large digital audio files and digital editing software, particularly Sound Forge, and/or experience working in an archives or library, especially doing cataloging work
Responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
- Participate in digital preservation efforts for a large collection of audio files by ripping files from CD to network storage, using audio editing software to piece together clips and remove blank tracks, and assigning metadata
- Encode descriptive inventories in HTML for online publication
- Catalog digital images, digital audio files, and other digital assets using Greenstone, an open source digital library software program
