The Bates-Morse Mountain Conservation Area (BMMCA) Steward and Education Assistant will support BMMCA management by working with the Director and lead steward, maintaining visitor records, monitoring usage, and assisting with social media. This staff member may engage the general public through educational activities, materials and outreach.

The Shortridge Coastal Center is seeking a passionate and motivated individual to join our team as a Community Engagement Fellow. In this role, you will play a central part in fostering connections between the Center, the Bates College community, and the diverse coastal ecosystems of the Bates-Morse Mountain Conservation Area. The Fellow will organize and lead a variety of community-focused events, outreach efforts, and will have the opportunity to assist in environmental education programs with the surrounding Phippsburg community, with a particular emphasis on outdoor exploration. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a beautiful coastal setting while engaging diverse student audiences in meaningful and hands-on ways.

. The Artist-in-Residence at Shortridge Coastal Center entails setting high artistic standards to foster creativity and development at the center. Responsibilities may include enhancing studio and trail spaces with art installations, improving the main building with artwork, and hosting art events for K-12 schools. The student will collaborate on weekly work plans with the director, live within a communal household, and engage in artistic residency activities. Work will take place in studio and outdoor forest and coastal settings, with occasional travel for image development and artist visits, with some expenses reimbursed.

The Research Assistant and Steward may collect and analyze environmental data across various disciplines, including beach profiling, vegetation surveys, and intertidal monitoring, while also engaging the community through education and outreach. Additionally, they will support BMMCA management by work with lead steward, maintaining visitor records, monitoring usage, and assisting with social media.
