
AESOP trips encourage authenticity, connection
The Class of 2030, the third largest in Bates history, gathered to kick off AESOP on Friday, Aug. 28 — the day after move-in day.
Looking for two students to work 5 – 10 hours each per week in the Dean of the Faculty Office. Duties will include: • Digitizing important historical Dean of Faculty documents, in collaboration with the Archives Department • Assisting the Associate Dean with the Focus on the Faculty program • Assisting with meeting logistics, including reserving meeting space and ordering catering • Helping to maintain the Dean of Faculty Twitter/social media/web accounts
Goals: The goal of this program is to strengthen equity and inclusion in STEM by providing peer mentoring for early STEM-interested STEM Scholar students to increase academic and social integration through community building, advising, and peer-peer monitoring. Fellows also establish a SACNAS chapter at Bates, and participate in other events related to equity and inclusion in STEM. Fellows receive training on mentoring practices aligned with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s “The Science of Effective Mentorship in STEMM.” Each mentor conducts group peer mentoring triangle events and is available for one-on-one sessions with mentees. Each mentor submits written reflections each semester based on their experiences. STIPENDED FELLOWSHIP: Students receive $250/semester
