Want to be a vertical video social content creator for Bates? From prospective and current students to parents and alumni, Bates’ social media presence is one of the key ways we reach and engage our audience.

The Bates Communications Office is looking for a social media associate to help support the college’s social media presence and explicitly help us grow and scale our short form vertical video production capability. The ideal candidate follows latest trends on TikTok and Reels and is excited by perfect timely edits to sound and music. The social media associate will also help develop long-form content ideas for Instagram Stories.

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities

Responsibilities


Be a key part of a content creation team that generates ideas specifically for short form vertical video, Aim to conceive, storyboard, produce, shoot, and edit 1-2 short form video ideas per week, Be open to being on camera (or getting a friend or classmate to!), Research emerging social media trends and new platform features, Assist supervisor with social media analytics when requested

Requirements


Required: • Current use and posting for platforms with a vertical video format (TikTok/Reels/Story) • Some interest and knowledge in the overall social media landscape and the major platforms (Meta/Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Snapchat, and LinkedIn) Preferred: • Some video editing knowledge experience through native platforms such as TikTok, Reels, or more professional software, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and/or iMovie. • Personal interest/experience in photography and/or videography

Reporting


Works closely with the Assistant Director of Digital Marketing and fellow social media assistant student workers.

Working Conditions


Computer, smartphone, and desk setup. Must have the ability to walk around campus and occasionally carry camera and video equipment. (estimated max 20-25 lbs)
